Stage Door

Some of the shows that stood out to me were a few from the 60s. I have always been interested in the fashion and lifestyle during the 60s, so musicals from this time are perfect. Hair, which first premiered in 1967, is an American Tribal-Love Rock musical that was also seen as a social phenomenon. It dealt with issues happening during that time such as hippie culture, sexual revolutions, and peace movements. Another musical mentioned was Cabaret, which premiered in 1966 but is set in 1939, focuses on a love triangle during the rise of the Nazi party. The website said that the musical was filled with satire, politics, violence, and sexual ambiguity that was seen as risky but ended up paying off, considering that it is still a famous musical. Even though these musicals were set in different times, they both deal with controversial issues and challenged some of the beliefs from the 60s.
